Giles: Best bets for Tuesday's Celtics-Trail Blazers matchup

Share

The Celtics continue their road trip in Portland on Tuesday night as slight underdogs to the Blazers (-1.5). Boston is playing better basketball and has won five of its last six games overall while Portland is just 2-4 over its last six contests.

Looking at the Blazers as slight favorites, they're just 3-5 against the spread when the spread is between 0 and -3. The Celtics don't fare any better as slight underdogs as they're just 2-5 ATS when the line is between 0 and +3. As for heading out west, Boston is 2-1 ATS while playing in the Pacific time zone this year. The Blazers, meanwhile, are just 6-8 ATS when hosting Eastern Conference teams -- odds provided by our partner, PointsBet Sportsbook.

The play that's best supported by NBC Sports Edge trends is the UNDER. Boston has played to the UNDER in eight of their last nine games.  Portland has also played to the UNDER in five of its last six games. When you consider the spread (BOS +1.5), the Celtics have played to the UNDER in 15 of the last 18 games where they're between 0 and +3.5 underdogs (dating back to January 2020).

If you're looking for an excuse to take the OVER, tonight's officiating crew is a combined 61-37 to the OVER. Portland is also 55-36 to the OVER its last 91 games dating back to last year.
