Gerald Green on Isaiah Thomas: ‘We're all playing for him'

Isaiah Thomas has gutted through a tough sequence of events in recent days, which began with the death of his sister Chyna on April 15. Thomas' strength isn't lost on his Celtics teammates.

Gerald Green seems to have great admiration for Thomas' ability to overcome the emotional adversity and continue to be the team's leader.

"I think it's everything," Green told CSNNE's Abby Chin before Game 5 between the Celtics and Chicago Bulls. "As a leader of the team, he's the head of our snake. So I think just him coming in here with high spirits and through his tough time that he's going through, it means a lot to us. It kind of gives us energy. And I think we're all playing for him."

"Right now, the way he's carrying himself -- and you know around the locker room, he's definitely helping us."

Thomas has helped the Celtics fight back into the series despite falling into a two-game hole. He has averaged 21.2 points and five assists while shooting 44 percent from the field. He has certainly struggled at times with six turnovers in Game 1. In Game 4, he shot 1 of 9 from the 3-point line. But he's still managed two games with 30-plus points.

Productive games like that are what has helped Green shine during this playoff series. Despite not starting at all during the regular season, Green has gotten three starts in the playoffs, and in Game 4, managed 18 points, seven rebounds. He was also 4 of 9 from the 3-point line.

"I've gotta give credit to my teammates. They gave me confidence," Green said. "Coach puts me in the right place to be successful. Playing with guys like Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford -- it just makes things a lot easier for me on the offensive end."
