Celtics Talk Podcast: Do C's need to add player before NBA's restart?

NBA teams beginning Tuesday have a week to tweak their rosters before traveling to Orlando next month to start training camps ahead of the 2019-20 season restart.

The Celtics don't have an open roster spot and must waive a player to create room for an addition.

Do the C's need to add a player from outside the organization to strengthen their roster for a potentially deep playoff run? NBC Sports Boston's Chris Forsberg, A. Sherrod Blakely and Kyle Draper discussed this topic on the latest episode of the Celtics Talk Podcast.

"I would like that, but you have to tell me the player," Draper said. "Who's out there that's going to help them? Jamal Crawford, maybe. I do think bench scoring is something that they need. But I don't want Jamal to come here and they only use him once every five games. I think Jamal Crawford, even though he's older now, he can still go out there and get you 15 points. That dude is a scorer for the rest of his life. So, I'd like that. Some people say go out and get a big man, but I don't see too many (out there). You've got Joakim Noah out there. I don't see anybody, that's the Celtics' problem."

The Celtics, when healthy, have a fairly deep team. There likely aren't a ton of minutes available for another rotation player.

"The problem isn't so much the players' talent -- it's where are they going to play?" Blakely said. "Why would you come to Boston if you're Jamal Crawford? They're not the favorite to win the championship with him, you're not going to get minutes, you're not going to get a big fat payday, so there's little to no incentive."

One potential area the Celtics could upgrade is at center. It's the one position where they don't have a ton of depth, especially if second-year center Robert Williams is unable to stay healthy. Still, the list of free agent centers isn't too enticing.

"For guys like Demarcus Cousins, even if you wanted him, again, is he really at this stage better than Enes Kanter?" asked Blakely. "Better than Daniel Theis? Better than Robert Williams? Better than Vincent Poirier?

"Probably one or two of those guys, maybe, but even then, is he going to be in your starting lineup or regular rotation? I don't think so. If this is someone who's only going to play once every five or six games, then why (sign him)?
