Celtics first-round pick Zizic has 37-point, 20-rebound game for Croatian team

BOSTON – Of the three first-round picks made by the Celtics last June, Ante Zizic is the least known of the trio.

But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have game, evident by the dominant performance he delivered over the weekend for Croatian club team KK Cibona in an 89-85 win over KK MZT Skopje-Aerodrom.

The 6-foot-10 big man, selected by Boston with the No. 23 pick in last June’s NBA draft, had 37 points and 20 rebounds in helping lead his team to a victory in Adriatic League play, a league that has produced some of the NBA’s brightest up-and-coming big men, such as Denver’s Nikola Jokic and Jusuf Nurkic.

While it was a monster performance, it was consistent with what has been a strong start to the season for the 19-year-old.

In four games, Zizic is averaging an impressive 24.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while shooting a jaw-dropping 70.6 percent from the field.

It’s still unclear if Zizic will play for the Celtics next season, but performances such as the one he delivered this weekend for his Croatian club team KK Cibona certainly provides hope and optimism for his future with the Celtics.
