Romeo Langford, the first player selected by the Celtics in the 2019 draft and 14th pick overall, has been assigned to the Maine Red Claws, Boston's affiliate in the developmental Gatorade League.
Langford, whose regular-season playing time has been limited to a 14-second cameo at the end of the Celtics' victory over the Milwaukee Bucks last week, has had an injury-filled start to his NBA career. The 6-4 shooting guard who played one season at Indiana University, missed summer league play as he recovered from thumb surgery and a groin strain and knee sprain limited his minutes in the preseason.
Langford, who turned 20 on Oct. 25, joins 2019 second-rounder, guard Tremont Waters (51st pick overall) and undrafted center Tacko Fall as two-way players with the Red Claws. Fall was also assigned to Maine Monday after being recalled Friday after injuries to frontcourt players Enes Kanter and Robert Williams.
The Celtics other 2019 picks, forward Grant Williams (a first-round pick selected 22nd overall) and guard Carsen Edward (a second-rounder, 33rd overall) have seen significant playing time., with Williams averaging 18 minutes a game and Edwards 13 a game.
