Bill Russell celebrated 85th birthday by crowd-sourcing his cake on Twitter

Bill Russell is carrying his greatness into the digital age.

The Boston Celtics legend is one of the best basketball players who ever lived: He won 11 NBA titles -- the most ever by a single player -- earned NBA MVP honors five times, made 12 All-Star teams and is the NBA's second-leading rebounder all-time behind Wilt Chamberlain.

He also made history as the NBA's first black coach and won two more championships with the Celtics in that post.

But prior to his 85th birthday, Russell just wanted to figure out what to put on his birthday cake. So, he did what any high-profile person in the 21st century does -- he asked Twitter.

The suggestions apparently weren't to Russell's liking, though, because he added a qualifying tweet Saturday.

"It's true only the good die young" is a great roast, but Russell went in a different direction.

Here's the awesome result, which the GOAT posted Tuesday on his actual birthday:

What a legend. (Yes, his wife really put 85 candles on his cake.)

Here's wishing the Basketball Hall of Famer more years of delighting us all on social media.
