Time is ticking for Alejandro De Aza.
About a week ago, it seemed De Aza would be going from the Red Sox to the Los Angeles Dodgers in an August waiver deal. But reportedly, the asking price on De Aza was too high and a deal couldn't get done.
De Aza has cleared waivers and could be dealt to any of the other 29 teams before midnight on Monday Aug. 31.
With the emegence of Jackie Bradley Jr. and Rusney Castillo in the past month, De Aza has been squeezed out of playing time. That much is understandable, since he's not part of the Red Sox future.
But it's hard to believe that the Sox couldn't get something for him before Sept. 1. De Aza has shown himself to be a capable outfielder, a player with energy and one with some post-season experience. He certainly helped the Orioles a year ago when they picked him up in August.
There's not much left to sell off for the Red Sox in August, but De Aza is a piece that should fetch them something in the next four days.
