Talking Points: Shaw hits two homers, drives in three

BOSTON -- Here are the Talking Points from the Red Sox' 15-1 thrashing of the Seattle Mariners:

STAR OF THE GAME: Travis Shaw

Shaw homered into the Red Sox bullpen in the third with a man on and then hit a solo shot into the Seattle bullpen in the eighth, giving him three RBI -- and his second two-homer game this month.

HONORABLE MENTION: Joe Kelly

In what was probably his best start since his first this season in New York, Kelly made his way through a rough first inning, then cruised through the sixth, allowing just one run on only four hits.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Mike Montgomery

The Seattle starter was given a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but gave back three runs in the bottom of the inning, then six more in the  third. The nine runs allowed were the most by the opposing starter against the Red Sox this season.

TURNING POINT: Already up 3-1 in the third, the six-run inning -- capped by one of Sandoval's doubles and a two-run homer from Travis  Shaw -- blew the game wide open.

BY THE NUMBERS: 2

Travis Shaw became the second Red Sox player in the last 100 years to have two multi-homer games in his first 18 career games. George Scott, in 1966, was the only other.
