Talking Points: Ramirez homer put Sox ahead for good

Share

STAR OF THE GAME: Hanley Ramirez

Ramirez's two-run homer -- a missile into the Red Sox bullpen with David Ortiz on base in the fourth inning -- put the Red Sox ahead to stay. It was Ramirez's fourth homer in his last eight games.

HONORABLE MENTION: Eduardo Rodriguez

Rodriguez improved to 5-2 with 6 1/3 strong innings against the Yankees. The only runs allowed came on solo homers -- by Alex Rodriguez in the first and Jacoby Ellsbury in the sixth.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Adam Warren

Warren came into a one-run game with two outs and a baserunner on. When he left, the Red Sox expanded their lead to three as all three batters he faced reached base.

TURNING POINT: The two insurance runs in the seventh were huge for the Red Sox, especially when the Yankees got one back off Junichi Tazawa in the eighth.

BY THE NUMBERS: The homer by Jacoby Ellsbury was the first one he's hit against the Red Sox since leaving Boston.
