Talking Points: McCann and Young hurt the Red Sox

Share

STAR OF THE GAME: Brian McCann

McCann always seems to hurt the Red Sox and Tuesday night was no exception, with a run-scoring double and a three-run homer for four RBI

HONORABLE MENTION: Chris Young

Young feasts on lefthanded pitching, and did so Tuesday night, collecting three hits and three RBI while scoring four runs.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Red Sox bullpen

The trio of Robbie Ross, Jean Machi and Craig Breslow combined to allow six runs -- and that doesn't count the two inherited runs scored against Ross.

Granted inheriting runners at second and third and no out is a tough situation. But Ross needed only three pitches to give up two run-scoring hits in the sixth, pinning the loss on Henry Owens.

TURNING POINT: The Red Sox had the tying run at third and the potential go-ahead run at second in the seventh but Dellin Betances struck out Brock Holt, stranding two in scoring position.

BY THE NUMBERS: The game marked the seventh time last in the last eight games that opponents scored at least one run against Red Sox.
