Here are the Talking Points from the Red Sox' 2-1 loss to the Yankees on Thursday night.
STAR OF THE GAME: CC Sabathia
Sabathia seemed to turn back the clock with a strong six innings during which he allowed just one run on three hits while fanning eight.
HONORABLE MENTION: Jacoby Ellsbury
Ellsbury got a hanging slider from Eduardo Rodriguez and drove it into the second deck in right to snap a 1-1 tie and provide the winning run for the Yankees.
GOAT OF THE GAME: David Ortiz
A night after winning the game with a solo homer, Ortiz came up empty Wednesday night, going 0-for-4 while stranding three teammates.
Boston Red Sox
TURNING POINT: In the fifth inning, Sabathia issued a couple of walks sandwiched around a single by Rusney Castillo. But with a chance to break the game open, Ortiz went down swinging on just four pitches.
BY THE NUMBERS: Though he took the loss, the start marked just the fourth time all season -- and second time in the last 11 outings -- that Eduardo Rodriguez pitched through the seventh inning.
