Sox jump out to an early lead in first, beat Yankees, 10-4

NEW YORK -- A night after they themselves were officially eliminated from playoff contention, the Red Sox continue to play as though they don't want any other teams to make it, either.

The Sox ripped off their fifth straight win, and for the second straight night, made sure the New York Yankees didn't celebrate in front of them, ambushing the Yanks with a six-run first and coasting to a 10-4 win.

Blake Swihart smacked a three-run homer to right in the first and added a two-run blast in the right in the eighth, accounting for five of the nine runs. Mookie Betts added a solo homer in the fifth.

Brock Holt had a run-scoring double in the first, and the Sox added two runs on ground outs.

That was enough to propel Rick Porcello to his ninth win of the season, though Porcello had a rough first inning that saw him nearly squander the six runs the Sox had provided him before he took the mound.

A run-scoring double from Carlos Beltran, an infield out from Brian McCann and a two-run homer by Dustin Ackley put a scare into the Sox as Porcello stumbled early.

But Porcello found himself after the first, limiting the Yankees to just two hits over his final seven innings. In his last two starts against New York, Porcello has pitched 16 innings and allowed five earned runs while striking out 21 and walking just two.
