Shoppach traded to Mets for player to be named later

The Red Sox have traded catcher Kelly Shoppach to the New York Mets in exchange for a player to be named later.

The announcement was made by Executive Vice PresidentGeneral Manager Ben Cherington earlier today.

Shoppach, 32, hit .250 (35-for-140) with 12 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 17 RBI, 16 runs scored, 11 walks and a stolen base in 48 games for the Red Sox this season after signing with the club as a free agent in December 2011. He started 42 games behind the plate and threw out 26.9 percent of attempted base stealers (7 of 26).
