Ryan: Victorino ‘should always have a spot in our hearts'

On Monday, Shane Victorino was traded to the Angels.

Sure, the Flyin' Hawaiian has been hurt most of this season and last, but it's impossible to discount the impact he had on the 2013 World Series team. GM Ben Cherington said the team wouldn't have won without him. Victorino was just as impactful in the Boston community following the Boston Marathon.

"Let's thank him for his service rendered, and including Boston Strong and all that," Bob Ryan said. "Shane Victorino should always have a spot in our hearts, over and above the athletic ability. Let’s face it, the song, Three Little Birds, I’m going to tell you something, the last game of the World Series here, I was in the stands, and it was one of the most electrifying moments ever in my Boston fan experience in 50 years -- every at bat in that last game."
