The Red Sox have traded utility man Eric Patterson to the San Diego Padres, according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports.
The move was made as part of the deal that sent Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox on December 6. Patterson is the "player to be named later" that the Red Sox promised to the Padres in order to acquire Gonzalez.
The complete package sent to the Padres from the Red Sox organization in the Gonzalez deal is pitcher Casey Kelly, first baseman Anthony Rizzo, outfielder Reymond Fuentes and Patterson.
Patterson hit .226 with 7 RBI in 84 at bats for the Red Sox last season.
