Red Sox vs. Athletics lineups: Chris Sale aiming to rebound after poor debut

The Boston Red Sox suffered their worst defeat of the 2019 season Monday night when the Oakland Athletics shut out the defending World Series champions for a 7-0 victory.

The Sox, in an attempt to stop the bleeding, will turn to ace Chris Sale for Tuesday night's game at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Sale should be highly motivated after struggling in his Opening Day start against the Seattle Mariners last week. The veteran left-hander gave up seven earned runs, six hits, three home runs, two walks and struck out four over just three innings in his season debut.

In lineup news Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts will remain in the leadoff spot for the foreseeable future, with outfielder Andrew Benintendi staying in the No. 2 spot. Christian Vazquez will do the catching at bat eighth.

The Athletics will send veteran starter Mike Fiers to the mound. He's 1-1 with a 5.00 ERA, five walks and five strikeouts in nine innings this season.
