Red Sox sign veteran reliever to minor league deal


The Boston Red Sox added bullpen depth on Tuesday.

Veteran reliever Jeurys Familia was signed to a minor league contract, as first reported by Joe McDonald of Worcester T&G. The 32-year-old will join the WooSox in Scranton Wilkes-Barre.

Familia was released by the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday after posting a 6.09 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in 38 appearances (34 innings) this season. The former All-Star previously spent 10 seasons with the New York Mets and one with the Oakland Athletics. For his career, Familia has a 3.46 ERA with 125 saves in 537 appearances.
