The Red Sox signed a reliever on Tuesday.
No, not the one you had in mind.
Boston reportedly signed former Mets reliever Jenrry Mejia to a minor league contract with an invite to major league camp. The deal is worth $625,000 if he makes the major league roster, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
If the name Jenrry Mejia rings a bell, that's because the hard-throwing right-hander is known for being suspended three times for performance-enhancing drugs, including a lifetime ban in 2016. Mejia was reinstated by MLB in July of 2018.
If Mejia has finally learned from past mistakes, he could be a pleasant surprise for a Red Sox team that appears to need bullpen help.
