Right-hander Michael Kopech, who was a Red Sox first-round draft pick last year out of a Texas high school, has been suspended 50 games following a positive test for the stimulant Oxilofrine.

Selected with the 33rd overall pick the Red Sox received as compensation for losing Jacoby Ellsbury to the Yankees via free agency, Kopech was pitching for Single-A Greenville with a 2.63 ERA and 70/27 K/BB ratio in 65 innings as a starter.

Kopech will miss the remainder of the minor-league season. He signed for a $1.5 million bonus.
