Red Sox' Dustin Pedroia has left knee ‘joint preservation procedure'

If you're wondering when Dustin Pedroia will play baseball again ... don't hold your breath.

The Boston Red Sox second baseman underwent a "left knee joint preservation procedure" Tuesday at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., per the team.

Pedroia will begin rehab in his native Arizona and there's no timetable on his return.

This is the first update we've gotten on Pedroia since Boston placed the 35-year-old on the 60-day disabled list in late May.

Pedroia went 2-for-20 in just six games this season and hasn't played since April 17. Tuesday's procedure -- which is essentially one step short of a knee replacement -- all but guarantees you won't be seeing back on the field in 2019.
