Remember the 2018 Red Sox offense? Mookie Betts (in his MVP season) and J.D. Martinez (in his first year in Boston) keyed the attack, as both players hit over .330 while combining for 75 HR and 210 RBIs.
But in 2019, while Betts and Martinez have fallen off the pace offensively, Boston's offense is now being paced by a brand new dynamic duo: Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers.
The two both rank in the AL's top 6 in batting average, slugging percentage, OPS, runs and extra base hits — and considering Bogaerts and Devers are just 26 and 22 years old respectively, the left side of the Sox infield could be formidable for years to come.
Considering their breakout campaigns, the question is worth asking: Are Bogaerts and Devers the best offensive 1-2 punch at the plate in the majors?
John Tomase surveyed the scene, but doesn't see them atop the field, at least not yet.
