Top Red Sox prospect Triston Casas is being examined for a medical issue unrelated to baseball, manager Alex Cora said on Thursday.
The 21-year-old was supposed to be in Fort Myers after being invited to spring training, but he's instead in Boston undergoing further evaluation. A source with knowledge of the situation described the team's approach as "being thorough" and expects that Casas will rejoin the club shortly.
"They found something medically that we have to take care of," Cora said. "It's not baseball related. It's actually personal. I'll leave it at that. We're hoping that everything is fine. He's in Boston right now going through all that stuff."

Casas was the team's first-round pick, 26th overall, in the 2018 draft. He's listed at 6-foot-4, 252 pounds, but since being drafted has grown to 6-5.
He possesses prodigious power and is considered the club's first baseman of the future, with an approach modeled on Reds All-Star Joey Votto.
In his lone full season of pro ball, Casas hit 20 homers and drove in 82 runs between Low and High A. He further impressed at the alternate site last year, not looking out of place against pitchers with big league experience.
