Ortiz in lineup vs. Royals

BOSTON -- David Ortiz is in the Red Sox lineup on Friday against the Kansas City Royals, as the designated hitter, and batting fourth.

Bobby Valentine had said that it was subject to change, barring any setbacks following Ortiz' pre game activities, but Ortiz was cleared.

"I have a lineup in my mind, but as we're speaking, David's out on the field, and Mike Hazen's out waiting for the medical report of his clearance," said Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine before the game."He's taking batting practice. He has to run after he hits. He has to run around the bases. he has to then feel that he's OK for the medical team to give him the clearance. And if he gets the clearance, he'll be in the lineup, and we'll make the corresponding roster move."

Adrian Gonzalez is slated to hit fifth, behind Ortiz in that lineup.
