Mitch Moreland exits game vs. Rays with back spasms, is day-to-day

Mitch Moreland left in the third inning of Saturday night's game vs. the Rays with back spasms.

The Red Sox first baseman was replaced by Steve Pearce and is considered day-to-day.

Moreland wasn't the only Sox player to go down with an injury on Saturday. Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi was placed on the 10-day injured list with an elbow issue and may undergo surgery.

Fortunately for Boston, Moreland's injury isn't as serious and barring any surprises, he should be able to return to action sooner rather than later.

Manager Alex Cora issued an update on Moreland after the game.

"He's doing OK, just tight," Cora told reporters. "Obviously it's not the best surface to play, so. I asked him, I said, 'do you grind this one out and sit tomorrow, or I take you out right now and you'll be available tomorrow?' and he's like 'I'll be available for tomorrow."
