Michael Chavis exited the Red Sox' game against the Orioles in the fifth inning Saturday night with back spasms. He will not return and has been ruled day-to-day by the team.
Chavis was replaced by Brock Holt, who moved over some second base as Marco Hernandez filled in at second base.
The Red Sox probably hope Chavis doesn't miss extended time while they wait for Mitch Moreland to make his return from injury as well. Chavis leads all AL rookies in RBI and has been a much-needed source of offensive production in an inconsistent Red Sox lineup.
As MassLive's Chris Cotillo notes, the Red Sox were most likely be cautious with their rookie infielder given the high temperatures in Baltimore this weekend.
