Since the moment Pablo Sandoval has arrived at Boston Red Sox camp the talk has been about his weight.
When it comes to on the field, Lou Merloni likes what he’s seen from the third baseman thus far.
“We’ve made a lot of fun about the weight, obviously, the last few days,” said Merloni. “The stuff that really matter, when you look at Pablo Sandoval and you watch him the last three or four days, you forget the guy’s got really soft hands.”
As for at the plate, Merloni said things are “night and day” compared to last season.
“More importantly, in the [batting] cage. That left-handed swing, he hasn’t really swung it this offseason, driving the baseball. Which is something we really didn’t see from Pablo Sandoval.”
