McAdam: Encouraged by Sox offensive power surge?

The Red Sox rank first in runs and batting average since the All-Star break.

So, should fans be encouraged by their offensive power surge?

“I think that’s one of the things that Dave Dombrowski will want to see to see over these next five weeks. Get a measure on if guys can make this work over the course of a full year,” Sean McAdam said on SportsNet Central.

“One encouraging thing is that they have been able to go on this offensive run with virtually no contributions at all from Hanley Ramirez. He’s got five extra base hits, no homers, and an OPS under .500 since the All-Star break.”

Ramirez has been a massive disappointment, but since the break David Ortiz is dominating with 11 home runs and 33 RBI.

But he’s not the only player stepping up.

“Don’t forget veteran guys who were struggling: Shane Victorino, since traded. Mike Napoli, since traded,” McAdam added. “The Red Sox were hoping they were going to get going, they left, and now they’re being replaced by Jackie Bradley Jr. in the outfield instead of Victorino, and [Travis] Shaw at first base instead of Napoli. And maybe it’s a small sample size, but for the last couple of weeks those guys have really lengthened the lineup.”
