Remember back in March, when the Boston Red Sox's 7-1 odds to win the 2019 World Series were viewed as bulletin board material?
Let's just say the Red Sox would kill for those odds right now.
Randy Blum of Westgate SuperBook shared the sportsbook's latest 2019 World Series odds Sunday, and they don't give the defending champions much of a chance to repeat: Boston was listed at +2500, or 25-1.
Perhaps more shocking than these long odds is the long list of teams ahead of the Sox: Nine clubs currently have better odds than Boston, including two teams in its own division (the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays) and a Washington Nationals squad that was supposed to tank this season.
Not that the 2019 Red Sox deserve better odds than they were given. Despite wins in five of its last seven games, Alex Cora's club enters Tuesday nine games back of the Yankees (who have the second-best title odds behind the Los Angeles Dodgers) in the American League East and two games back of the Cleveland Indians and Oakland Athletics for the second AL Wild Card spot.
There's still time for the Red Sox to turn it around, but the sobering reality is that they're currently a middling MLB franchise that's been unable to shake a persistent World Series hangover.
