FINAL SCORE: Mariners 12, Red Sox 4
IN BRIEF: Chris Sale picked an inopportune time for his worst start in a Red Sox uniform. He allowed seven earned runs and three homers in three innings as the Mariners romped in Boston's season-opener 12-4 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. The M's hit five homers among their 12 hits off five pitchers as the Sox defense of their title got off to a shaky start. In fact, the 12 runs are the most allowed by a defending champ in an opener.
