The Boston Red Sox boast the top offense in the American League so far this season, but that wasn't an issue for Seattle Mariners starter Chris Flexen on Saturday.
Flexen shut down the Red Sox lineup with only four hits and one run allowed in seven innings while striking out seven. That one run -- an RBI single by Marwin Gonzalez -- and a ninth-inning RBI double by Rafael Devers were all Boston could muster in its 8-2 loss.
Nathan Eovaldi struggled for the first time this season, allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings pitched. Kyle Seager did most of the damage for Seattle as he was only a homer short of the cycle (3-for-5, 3 RBI). Sam Haggerty also had a nice day at the plate going 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI.
