Felger: Letting Francona go was the right move

While most people in Boston are angered by Terry Francona's departure from the Red Sox, Michael Felger believes the Sox -- by not bring Tito back -- did the right thing.

"The more I think about it, the more I believe it's the right move," the 'Mohegan Sun Sports Tonight and 'Sports Sunday' host said on Sunday's broadcast.

"Three years in this market, with this payroll, without a playoff win is too long. He's finished third for two straight years. They just had one of the worst months a good team has ever had in the history of the sport.

"The drinking in the clubhouse thing . . . Gordon Edes reported on ESPN Boston.com that it wasn't just this year. That's been going for two years, and Terry Francona had to have known about it. And he just let it go on, or was unable to put it out, for two years?

"If that's not a reason to fire somebody, then no reasons exist. And it stuns me that so many fans are like, 'This is terrible!' And it shows you how smart Tito is to cozy up to people in the media, because 90 percent of the media say this is the wrong move.

"What? I mean, to me, how much more do you need to do to lose your job?"
