Nearly 10 years after John Henry reportedly paid Dan Duquette 3 million in severance to leave Fenway, the former Red Sox general manager has been hired by the Baltimore Orioles to be their president of baseball operations.
CSN Baltimore reports the decision will be formally announced on Tuesday.
He's been out of MLB for almost a decade, but Duquette, 53, ran the Red Sox from 1994 to 2002 and before that was GM of the Montreal Expos from 1991 to 1993. The Red Sox made the playoffs three times under Duquette, and many of the pieces he brought to Boston -- Many Ramirez, Pedro Martinez and Jason Varitek to name three -- were key members of the 2004 World Series champion Sox.
Duquette has run a kids sports camp and ran a college summer baseball league and a baseball league Israel for a short time.
