In his first formal statement since getting shot on June 9, David Ortiz expressed gratitude for his family, doctors, fans and the Red Sox organization.
Though he's still recovering from injuries sustained from the shooting, Ortiz seems to be in good spirits — though he still can't eat much.
"I am feeling good but I know I need to do my rehab just like I did when I was recovering from injuries playing baseball."
Ortiz called the team of doctors who helped him in both Santo Domingo and Boston "some of the best teammates I have ever had." Ortiz has undergone three separate surgeries since the surgery to address damage to his liver and intestines as well as complications.
He also thanked Red Sox ownership for flying him to Boston and for their assistance in his recovery.
To focus on his rehab, Ortiz asked for privacy, but ensured "Big Papi will be back soon."
