Chris Sale's struggles continued in the Red Sox's loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday night.
The left-hander allowed nine hits and five runs (three home runs) in 5 2/3 innings. The loss brings Sale's record to 3-8 and his ERA up to 4.04 for the season.
After the game, Sale didn't mince words about the issues he's been having on the mound. The Red Sox ace admitted he's probably never been more frustrated playing baseball than he is right now, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.
This isn't Sale's first time candidly expressing his frustration with his performance. After getting off to a slow start in April, Sale called his poor outing "embarrassing for my family, our team, and our fans."
Simply put, Boston needs Sale to return to form as a dominant arm if they're to contend for a playoff spot. The starting rotation is thin enough as is with Nathan Eovaldi being moved to the bullpen for the foreseeable future.
