Carrabis: ‘People are sleeping on' this Red Sox lineup

Are the Boston Red Sox in a position to duplicate last year's surprising success?

A few question marks on the roster have left some hesitant to put the Red Sox on a pedestal in 2022. For instance, the starting rotation has plenty to prove, especially with Chris Sale set to miss time again due to injury. Plus, the bullpen is filled with uncertainty as manager Alex Cora still has yet to name a closer.

As for the lineup, it looks to be in solid shape. Former Colorado Rockies slugger Trevor Story was added to a group that scored the fifth-most runs scored (830) in MLB last season. Boston ranked third in the league with a .777 team OPS.

DraftKings' Jared Carrabis believes the Red Sox' potent offense isn't getting enough respect heading into the new campaign.

"I think people are sleeping on how good and how deep of a lineup they have," Carrabis said Thursday on Early Edition. "And I think when we go into spring training we're talking about the (Rafael) Devers contract, the (Xander) Bogaerts contract, it's good to have players hungry that have won before. That's another thing, too. When you have complacency in camp, that's a bad thing. I don't get the sense that there's complacency with this group. I don't get the sense that the guys who have won don't care to win again."

The 2021 Red Sox made it all the way to Game 6 of the American League Championship Series before finally falling to the Houston Astros. Carrabis sees this year's group as one that's capable of making another deep postseason run.

"I think that you can build off of last year, that there were low expectations and they exceeded those expectations," he said. "I think that this is a hungry group that wants to get back to where they were last year and go past that."

The Red Sox begin their 2022 season Friday vs. the New York Yankees. First pitch in the Bronx is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET.
