Britton: ‘Risk is a lot higher' if Hanley moves to 1st base

With David Ortiz locked in as the Boston Red Sox designated hitter through the 2016 season, the question rises once again: what should they do with Hanley Ramirez?

While some have suggested moving him to first base, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal doesn't think that is a good idea.

"Ramirez, as we've seen, has been a disaster in left field. The problem is, you move him to first base and he's that bad at first base, then it's every ground ball. It's not just the three balls hit to left field every game," said Britton. "You make one mistake scooping a game, that's an error a game. It wrecks your infield defense overall. So the risk is a lot higher if you move him to first base."

Steve Buckley agrees with Britton, and says moving Ramirez to first base would be "cataclysmic" to the Red Sox defense.
