Bradley undergoes MRI on injured knee, misses Sunday game

So much for "It's nothing" and "I'll be fine".

Both the Red Sox and Jackie Bradley Jr. shrugged off the knee injury Bradley suffered in the ninth inning of Saturday's 4-1 loss in Detroit, saying they didn't expect it would force him to miss any time. "I'm built like Secretariat," Bradley boasted.

But today Bradley is not only not in the lineup for the third game of the Red Sox' four-game, wraparound series in Detroit, but he's having an MRI on that knee. Steve Selsky is replacing Bradley in center field and also in the sixth spot in the batting order.

The good news for the Sox: Mookie Betts is back from his bout with the flu and returns to right field, batting third, and Andrew Benintendi -- who threw up during yesterday's game, apparently suffering from at least a bit of the flu bug that's ravaged the Sox -- is healthy enough to be in the lineup. In addition, Matt Barnes is back from bereavement leave and will provide some late-inning bullpen help.
