Alex Cora proud of homeland Puerto Rico for peaceful protests leading to Gov. Ricardo Rossello's resignation

An emotional, proud Alex Cora took the podium prior to Thursday night's Red Sox-Yankees matchup.

On Wednesday, Puerto Ricans rejoiced as Governor Ricardo Rossello announced he was resigning in the wake of the mass protests in Cora's homeland. The protests have gone on for the last week due to leaked messages between Rossello and his colleagues in which Rossello used vulgarities to insult both his political foes and allies.

Hundreds of thousands of Puerto Ricans took the streets to call for Rossello's resignation, and they accomplished their mission by using words rather than bloodshed. For that, Cora is proud of his home country.

In his press conference, Cora wore a t-shirt with the Puerto Rico flag that read, "We are more" in Spanish.

He also tweeted this on Wednesday night, which translates to "Powerful."

Cora talked at length about the issues in Puerto Rico last week, expressing his anger and disappointment about what he called an "embarrassing" situation. Now, he has a reason to celebrate, as do millions of his fellow Puerto Ricans.
